Random Name Picker Wheel

Spin a wheel of names or choices, remove winners, and save your draw history

1–100 entries, up to 60 characters each. Blank lines and surrounding spaces are ignored.

Each line is a separate slot, including repeated names. Every slot has an equal chance of winning.

Names and draws are processed in your browser and are not saved automatically. Closing this page clears the entries and history.

What this tool does

Create a random name picker wheel for classrooms, events, games, or everyday choices. Enter one name or option per line, spin the wheel, and see the winning name and slot number beneath the pointer. Remove a winning slot before the next draw or keep all entries for repeated draws. Export your draw history as CSV, use full screen for a group, or skip the animation with the reduced-motion option.

Common use cases

  • Choose a student to speak or a participant at an event
  • Pick a lunch option, a game prompt, or an activity
  • Remove each winner to create an order and save the results as CSV

How to use it

  1. Enter one name or choice per line, or load the example to try the wheel.
  2. Check the numbered entry list and select “Spin the wheel”. Editing and another spin are disabled while the wheel is moving.
  3. Read the winning name and slot. Select “Remove this winning slot” if it should not appear in the next draw.
  4. Repeat as needed and save the history as CSV. Use “Reset entries and history” to start over.

Input and output example

Input: Enter “Alex”, “Sam”, and “Alex” on three separate lines, then spin.
Output: Each slot has a 1 in 3 chance. If slot 3, “Alex”, wins and you remove it, the other “Alex” and “Sam” remain. The actual winner varies with each draw.

Important notes

  • Enter 1–100 choices, up to 60 characters each and 10,000 characters in total. Blank lines and surrounding spaces are ignored. Control characters such as tabs are rejected.
  • Repeated names are separate slots. A name entered twice has twice the chance of a name entered once. Check the list if you did not intend to include duplicates.
  • The wheel shows slot numbers instead of names. With 25 or more entries, it omits those numbers; use the entry list and winning result to identify names.
  • The reduced-motion option or your device preference skips the animation. Full screen is available where supported by the browser.
  • History holds up to 500 draws and remains when you edit entries. Slot numbers and entry counts describe the wheel at the time of each draw. CSV timestamps use UTC.
  • Entries and history are not saved automatically. Export any results you need before closing the page. CSV cells that could be interpreted as formulas receive a leading apostrophe.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I enter the same name more than once?
Every line is a separate slot with an equal chance of winning. Removing a winner removes only the selected slot; other slots with the same name remain.
Can I use the picker without the spinning animation?
Yes. Enable “Reduce motion” to show each new result immediately. The animation is also skipped when your device requests reduced motion. The chances are unchanged.
Are names sent to a server?
No. Names, random selection, history, and CSV generation are handled in your browser. Entries and history are not saved automatically and are cleared when you close the page.
Can I exclude winners from later draws?
Yes. After the result appears, select “Remove this winning slot”. To draw again from the same list, simply spin without removing the winner.
