What this tool does
Build a printable pixel grid for a small craft project directly in your browser. Start with your own artwork, a photo, or the included original heart, then choose a grid size and color limit. Each cell receives a number, and the color key lists the generic HEX color and how many cells use it. The result works as a fuse bead layout or an initial cross-stitch draft to match with real materials.
Common use cases
- Turn a hand-drawn motif into a fuse bead placement guide
- Simplify artwork into a small cross-stitch draft
- Count cells by color before choosing craft supplies
- Print a numbered pixel grid for a classroom art project
How to use it
- Choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP file, or try the original heart sample.
- Set the number of cells on the longest side, the maximum colors, and the transparency background.
- Review the numbered grid and color counts. Enlarge the preview to read individual cells.
- Choose whether to show numbers and grid lines, then print or save a PNG or SVG with its color key.
Input and output example
Important notes
- Set the longest side to 8–64 cells and the maximum palette to 2–16 colors. The shorter side follows the image aspect ratio. An image with fewer colors may use fewer than the selected limit.
- Transparent and translucent pixels are blended onto your chosen background. Background cells are included in the counts; subtract the cells you plan to leave empty.
- Palette numbers are local to this pattern. They are not DMC floss references or manufacturer bead codes, and HEX colors may look different from real supplies.
- Still PNG, JPEG, and WebP images are supported up to 8 MiB, 16 megapixels, and 8,192 px per side. Animated PNG and WebP are not supported.
- Resizing and color reduction can remove fine lines or small text. Images are processed locally in the browser without being uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this produce DMC floss or branded bead color numbers?
- No. Each number identifies a generic color in this one pattern. Use the HEX swatches as a starting point and compare them against actual floss or bead samples before selecting materials.
- Are background cells included in the supply count?
- Yes. Every cell is counted, including the selected transparency background. If you leave the background empty, subtract those cells. If the same color also appears in the motif, keep the motif cells in your estimate.
- Can I print a pattern with its color key?
- Yes. PNG and SVG downloads and the print view all include the numbered color key and cell counts. Large grids are fitted to the page; save the SVG if you need a larger print using another application.
